Meet The Yolkers

In my artworks featuring The Yolkers, I have drawn inspiration from the egg yolk, with its intensely round, yellow, and glossy form. The egg’s symbolism in art history is profound and multifaceted. It has been a symbol of fertility and new beginnings, often associated with the cycle of life and rebirth. In Christian art, the egg is a powerful symbol of resurrection and the promise of eternal life, particularly evident in Easter traditions where eggs are decorated and exchanged. In various mythologies, the egg represents the cosmos or the universe, encapsulating the idea of creation and the birth of the world. The duality of the egg’s hard shell and soft interior also evokes themes of protection and hidden potential. In art, eggs have also been used as a binding medium in paint, known as egg tempera.

In my artworks, I have reinterpreted classical portrait paintings from different epochs in art history, spanning from the 1600s to the 1900s. In these portraits, you encounter The Yolkers, individuals with egg yolk brains that often drip down their faces reminding of dripping paint as egg tempera. By introducing an egg yolk into art history, these historical works are transformed into something entirely different. The images become both aesthetic, surreal, and slightly eerie at the same time. Which creates an exciting intersection between art history and the new AI technology.
