A Surreal Testament to the Human Condition
“A Surreal Testament of the Human Condition” is a twelve-piece collection from 2023/24 that features an emotional, impactful, and thought-provoking series of strange, yet familiar portraits. Each image began as a sketch or concept that flourished with the help of AI into vibrant illustrations portraying the universal experiences and common understandings shared by humans, regardless of race, orientation, religion, age, or other distinctions. The collection showcases dozens of hours of work, refining small portions of each image hundreds of times before the final external editing. From self-discovery to aching grief, perseverance to desperation, each piece invites you to explore the very aspects of human nature within yourself.
The collection is highlighted by one of my favorite representations of building the very fabric of our identity over time, “Warp and Weft.” In this unique illustration, a figure of persistence and resilience stands adorned in patchwork denim, as if she had molded each piece to her very skin with strict attention to detail, changing and creasing with each curve and bend. Denim was chosen not only for its durability but for the hard work and craftsmanship that go into creating quality fabric, mirroring the effort required to become the best version of oneself. She stands stoic as a testament to her strength and the beauty that comes with self-discovery.
As you explore the collection, you’ll likely experience a range of emotions that resonate with your own encounters with each theme. Notice the uncomfortable and terrifying feeling of dissociation in “Beside Myself” or the painful grief and emptiness of “The Eternal Void.” Deeper still, you can sense the frustration and exhaustion in “Burnout” and how it contrasts sharply with the resilience depicted in “Resurgence.” Perhaps it’s “A Saving Embrace” in a time of need or a desperate fight for glory in “The Race to Eternity” that strikes a nerve. At the end of the day, let us lift each other up and strive for happiness as we realize that we are all just small fragments of the “Universe Experiencing Itself,” spinning on a tiny blue dot.
Beside Myself (2024)
“Beside Myself” is a powerful and evocative piece that captures the unsettling experience of dissociation or derealization. The artwork features a figure standing on a path that stretches out toward a surreal horizon dominated by a massive, looming image of the Earth. The scene is set in an open field under a vivid blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds, creating a juxtaposition between the serene setting and the disorienting subject matter.
In the foreground, a second figure appears, but unlike the solid, detailed form of the first figure, this one is composed entirely of static-like patterns, reminiscent of television noise. This figure, although present, seems disconnected from the environment, symbolizing the feeling of being physically present yet mentally detached. The static figure stands slightly to the side, illustrating the sensation of observing oneself from an external perspective, a common experience in dissociation.
The path, painted in striking red, leads the eye toward the horizon, suggesting a journey or quest for grounding and reality. The vibrant poppies along the path contrast with the static figure, emphasizing the disconnection between the vibrant world and the internal experience of the person suffering from dissociation. The presence of the Earth in the background adds a cosmic scale to the piece, underscoring the feeling of being lost or out of place in the vastness of existence.
“Beside Myself” invites viewers to explore the profound and often disorienting experience of dissociation. Through its surreal imagery and contrasting elements, the artwork conveys the internal struggle of maintaining a sense of reality and presence. It serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of mental health and the importance of understanding and empathy for those who navigate these challenging experiences. This piece encourages a deeper contemplation of our own perceptions of reality and the fragile nature of our mental landscapes.

The Universe Experiencing Itself (2024)
“The Universe Experiencing Itself” is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking piece that encapsulates the profound philosophical notion of humans as embodiments of the cosmos. The artwork features a serene, almost ethereal figure whose face is partially peeled away to reveal a breathtaking cosmic expanse within. This inner universe, filled with swirling galaxies, nebulae, and stars, signifies the deep connection between human existence and the vastness of the cosmos.
The figure’s closed eyes and contemplative expression suggest a state of inner peace and awareness, as if in meditation or deep reflection. The delicate, flowing lines and soft gradients of color that compose the cosmos within the figure are contrasted by the smooth, pale surface of the exterior, emphasizing the hidden depths and complexities that lie beneath our physical forms. The faint outlines of distant stars and celestial bodies in the background enhance the sense of infinity and interconnectedness, reminding viewers that we are part of something much greater than ourselves.
This piece invites viewers to ponder the idea that we are not just passive inhabitants of the universe but active participants in its ongoing narrative. It celebrates the notion that, composed of stardust, we carry within us the essence of the cosmos, making each individual a unique expression of the universe. Through its captivating imagery, “The Universe Experiencing Itself” encourages a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and the extraordinary reality that the universe, through us, can contemplate its own existence. The artwork uses a muted, earthy palette that enhances the mood of struggle and endurance. A Saving Embrace (2024)
“A Saving Embrace” poignantly captures the transformative power of human connection and support. The artwork features two figures locked in a heartfelt embrace, highlighting the stark contrast between them. One figure is depicted in vibrant colors, symbolizing life, emotion, and vitality. This figure’s presence radiates warmth and energy, represented through a spectrum of swirling hues that flow seamlessly from their form. The other figure, in stark contrast, is rendered in dark, muted tones, signifying a lack of emotion and feeling. Their form appears almost shadow-like, suggesting a state of despair or emotional numbness.
The embrace itself is tender and supportive, with the colorful figure enveloping the darker one, symbolizing the act of providing solace and strength. The vivid colors from the lively figure seem to bleed into the dark form, implying a transfer of energy and hope. This visual metaphor powerfully illustrates the idea that love and compassion can bring light to the darkest moments, offering a lifeline to those in need. The expressions of the figures, though subtle, convey a deep sense of connection and understanding, emphasizing the emotional depth of this moment.

The Race to Eternity(2023)
“Race to Eternity” presents a haunting and intense portrayal of human striving and suffering. At the center of this striking composition, a figure emerges triumphantly from a mass of tormented bodies, each grasping and clawing in a desperate attempt to ascend from the depths of despair. The scene is set in a dimly lit, undefined space that suggests a purgatorial or underworldly realm, where light beams down selectively, highlighting the central figure as a focal point of both struggle and transcendence.
The artwork is rich with symbolism, contrasting the central figure’s relative calm and poise with the chaos and agony of the figures below. This visual contrast evokes themes of life and death, ascent and fall, and the perpetual human quest for meaning amidst suffering. The figures are rendered with a high level of detail, their expressions and gestures conveying a profound emotional intensity that is both disturbing and captivating. The use of muted earth tones and the interplay of light and shadow enhance the dramatic effect, drawing the viewer into the depth of the human condition depicted.
“Race to Eternity” compels viewers to contemplate the existential struggles that define the human experience. It raises questions about the nature of our journey through life and the
inevitable approach toward death. The artwork serves as a powerful reminder of our own vulnerabilities and the universal struggle to find significance in our existence even beyond death. The pandemonium below is suggestive of the longing for eternity or salvation after death and how one can ignore their own happiness for the sake of salvation. This piece is not only a visual exploration of human endurance but also a profound commentary on the eternal pursuit of salvation and enlightenment within the cyclical confines of life and death.

Resurgence (2024)
“Resurgence” is a poignant depiction of resilience and the human spirit’s capacity to rise again despite facing failures. The artwork features a figure kneeling, their body appearing as an imperfectly sculpted form with visible scaffolding and structural supports. This raw and unfinished appearance symbolizes the ongoing process of self-reconstruction and the inherent imperfections in our journey towards growth and recovery. The figure’s pose, one of deep reflection and introspection, captures a moment of pause before the inevitable rise to meet new challenges.
The textures of the sculpture, with its cracked and fragmented surfaces, emphasize the hardships and struggles endured by the figure. Yet, the presence of scaffolding suggests a foundation being built, reinforcing the idea of rebuilding and fortifying oneself. The exposed framework indicates vulnerability but also strength, as it represents the underlying support system that holds the figure together, ready to face the world once more. The light and shadows playing across the form highlight the contours and depth, adding a dramatic intensity to the piece.
“Resurgence” invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of failure and recovery. It serves as a powerful reminder that setbacks are an integral part of the journey towards self-improvement and resilience. Through its evocative imagery, the artwork celebrates the human capacity to rebuild and emerge stronger from adversity. The kneeling figure, poised to rise, embodies the hope and determination that drives us forward, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the process of healing and growth. This piece stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and the perpetual cycle of falling and rising again.

The Eternal Void (2024)
“The Eternal Void” powerfully captures the desolation and emptiness that accompany profound grief. The central figure, rendered in muted tones, stands with a resigned posture, embodying the weight of sorrow. The head of the figure is fractured, with deep cracks symbolizing the shattering impact of loss. Out of these cracks, barren branches extend, representing the way grief can make life feel lifeless and barren.
A jar hanging from one of the branches contains tears, serving as a poignant symbol of the continuous outpouring of sorrow. The figure’s chest is marred by a gaping hole where the heart should be, further emphasizing the sense of emptiness and the missing piece that once brought life and love.
The background, a muted and indistinct blend of colors, reflects the numbing haze of grief that blurs the lines of reality. Birds flying around the figure, dark and somber, echo the lingering presence of loss and the way it haunts one’s existence.
“The Eternal Void” is a striking portrayal of the internal landscape of grief, where the heart is a void, and the tears are a constant companion. It invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of loss and the enduring impact it has on the human soul.

Repaint Your Reality (2023)
“Repaint Your Reality” is a striking piece that captures the essence of human creativity and introspection. At the center, a figure sits calmly in a meditative pose, but instead of a traditional head, a dark, stormy cloud forms where the face should be. This cloud, with its intense and thoughtful expression, represents the mind’s vast potential to shape and obscure our perceptions. The figure’s posture, peaceful yet intense, reflects the ongoing balance between inner peace and the tumultuous thoughts that often reside within us.
From the figure’s body flows a vibrant, multicolored stream of paint that cascades outward, merging with the surrounding landscape. This flow of color symbolizes the endless possibilities of creativity and the power we have to transform our world through our actions and thoughts.
The surrounding scene, with its swirling clouds, bright butterflies, and vivid birds, adds to the surreal and dreamlike atmosphere, suggesting a world full of potential and ever-evolving beauty. The colors and forms blend harmoniously, reminding us that reality is not static but something we can continuously reshape.
This artwork encourages viewers to reflect on their own lives and consider how they can actively participate in creating their reality. The contrasts between dark and light, order and chaos, highlight the dual nature of our experiences. “Repaint Your Reality” serves as an invitation to embrace our creative power, to see the world not just as it is but as it could be, shaped by our imagination and our will to create something beautiful out of the chaos.

Burnout (2024)
“Burnout” is a deeply evocative artwork that captures the emotional toll of maintaining a facade in the face of personal struggle and exhaustion. The piece depicts a weary artist seated at his workbench, surrounded by various masks that represent different emotional states. The central focus is on the artist holding a bright yellow, smiling mask, a stark contrast to his own haggard and somber expression. The yellow mask, reminiscent of a cheerful emoji, symbolizes the forced positivity and the pretense of happiness that many people feel compelled to display.
The artist’s workshop is cluttered with tools, paint, and unfinished masks, emphasizing the continuous effort and labor involved in crafting these false fronts. The dim lighting and muted colors of the background create a somber and introspective atmosphere, highlighting the isolation and fatigue of the artist. The juxtaposition of the happy masks with the artist’s genuine, pained expression underscores the theme of burnout and the emotional cost of hiding one’s true feelings.
“Burnout” invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences with emotional exhaustion and the pressures of societal expectations. It serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of acknowledging and addressing one’s mental and emotional well-being. Through its powerful imagery and symbolic depth, the artwork conveys the struggle of maintaining appearances while dealing with inner turmoil, encouraging a more compassionate understanding of the hidden battles people face. For the Occasion (2024)
“For the Occasion” presents an arresting portrait of a figure adorned with an array of faces, each conveying a unique facet of an internal masquerade. This multiplicity of expressions, meticulously arranged around the central, composed visage, captures the essence of social veneers. The subjects’ varied countenances are reminiscent of the masks one might assume to navigate the complexities of societal expectations, concealing the turmoil of depression or anxiety that lurks beneath the surface.
The portrait delves into the concept of emotional camouflage, where the multiplicity of faces represents the different personas the individual must adopt. Whether driven by the need to hide inner darkness or the inability to express genuine emotion, the figure becomes a chameleon of the human condition. The emotional, yet withdrawn, central face indicates a struggle within that one must hide from view with stronger or happier personas that are more socially acceptable.
In “For the Occasion,” the dichotomy between appearance and reality is poignant. The central figure, adorned in a suit fitting for a grand event, sits with an air of dignified poise, yet the chorus of surrounding expressions hints at the internal conflict of identity. The angelic wings that crown the figure suggest a yearning for transcendence, a flight from the inner shadows that the multiple faces strive to obscure. It is a powerful commentary on the human experience — our innate desire to portray strength while grappling with the fragility of our true selves.

Fractured (2024)
“Fractured” poignantly illustrates the theme of lost identity and the arduous journey of rediscovering oneself. The artwork features a series of overlapping, distorted images of a single figure’s face, each slightly shifted and blurred, creating a visual representation of fragmentation. The repetition and distortion of the figure’s features evoke a sense of disorientation and confusion, symbolizing the struggle to maintain a coherent sense of self amidst life’s challenges.
The central figure, with their curly red hair and freckled face, appears contemplative and introspective. The varied expressions captured in the overlapping images range from pensive to forlorn, reflecting the emotional turmoil associated with feeling fractured and lost. The gradual fading and blending of the faces towards the edges of the image suggest a dissolution of identity, as if the individual is slowly slipping away into obscurity. This visual metaphor highlights the inner conflict and the disintegration of one’s self-concept that often accompanies periods of personal crisis or transformation.
“Fractured” invites viewers to empathize with the universal human experience of losing and finding oneself. It speaks to the resilience required to piece together the fragments of a broken identity and the courage needed to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Through its haunting and evocative imagery, the artwork serves as a powerful reminder of the fragility of identity and the strength it takes to rebuild and redefine who we are.
