Ambivalent Mutations 2026 — Video Presentation

Influenced by surrealist automatism, Sambo follows gesture, repetition and chance into unfamiliar organic forms. Attraction and discomfort, vulnerability and protection, growth and dissolution remain deliberately unresolved.
Work I, Flesh of Growth in Visceral Eden, began as a handmade charcoal-pencil drawing without erasure. AI subsequently strengthened tonality and legibility for reproduction, preserving the hand-drawn structure.
Work II, Membranes of Consequence, developed through five stages: Patricia - AI - Patricia - AI - Patricia. Two digital AI continuations alternated with physical reworkings of printed images. The sequence began and ended with the artist’s hand.
Work III, The Garden After the Body, was generated using AI within the series’ visual context, without detailed compositional instructions or subsequent physical reworking by the artist.
The intended encounter begins with the three works together, before their origins are disclosed. The series asks how knowing an image’s origin changes the attention, meaning or value we give it.
This video presentation is accompanied by documentation distinguishing the handmade drawing and its AI-enhanced reproduction, the human-AI exchange, and the AI-generated composition.
